University of Rawalpindi Participates in Launch of COMSTECH-CCoE Somalia Programme
Dr Muhammad Abubakar, Chairman, Board of Governors & Rector, University of Rawalpindi, participated in the launch of the second phase of the COMSTECH-CCoE Somalia Programme held at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad on 31 July 2026.
The initiative, launched by OIC-COMSTECH in collaboration with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia, is aimed at strengthening the capacity of Somali researchers, scientists and professionals through fully funded fellowships, specialised training and institutional collaboration.
The programme offers research fellowships, technical training and short courses across priority areas including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cyber Security, Geographic Information Systems, Biotechnology, Digital Skills, Public Health and other STEM disciplines. It also promotes faculty exchange, joint research supervision, curriculum development and institutional partnerships between Pakistani and Somali universities.
The launch brought together ambassadors, vice chancellors, rectors, representatives of partner institutions and senior officials of OIC-COMSTECH, reflecting broad support for educational and scientific cooperation with Somalia.
During the event, Dr Abubakar also engaged with diplomatic and academic representatives on opportunities for strengthening educational linkages and institutional collaboration.
University of Rawalpindi remains committed to expanding meaningful international partnerships and creating opportunities for academic cooperation, research, capacity building and global engagement.
